Grey Television

A music project by David Boldt, Maximilian Garth, Julius Barg, Benjamin Blazy and Mirko Zipris. 5 guys from Berlin and as I presume it's about time to present them here. Some of you may know them as supporting act of Foals and These New Puritans but some of you may not.

Their music is eventually something between ambient-shoegazeish indie pop, something that I can't really tell what it is in this jungle of genres but they're good in holding the balance of it.

Back on Track / It's All About Zombies / Social Network

Good morning and welcome back to the Local Natives Blog to myself. I somehow forgot the password during one of those horrible nightmares about zombies.
Maybe I don't have to mention the anxiety to a fiew people, that know me a bit better. Fear against zombies. Yes.. kids stuff - I know.

But now there is coming something up on the 31. of october that i really don't want to miss.
It's a Series called "The Walking Dead". Originally written by Robert Kirkman and artist(s) Tony Moore/Charlie Adlard (in 2006). And I thought it's a good way to get rid of that anxiety that i got.
I also don't want to withhold this classic piece of art from you:

Plot Synopsis (via Wikipedia):

The Walking Dead is centered on Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer from Cynthiana, Kentucky, his family, and a number of other survivors who have banded together in order to survive after the world is overrun with zombies. As the series progresses, the characters become more developed, and their personalities shift under the stress of a zombie apocalypse, most notably Rick's.

In the beginning of the series, Rick and partner Shane are in a firefight and Rick is shot and enters a coma. Upon waking in a hospital, he discovers the undead are in the building and town. Rick returns home and shortly decides to go to Atlanta, where the survivors were told to await help, to find his wife Lori and son Carl. He discovers the city is crowded with zombies and bumps into Glenn, a scavenger for a band of survivors. Following Glenn, Rick discovers Lori and Carl are okay along with Shane, who is less than happy that his former partner has returned. He also meets new survivors.

The group searches for a place to call home, settling in several temporary camps, including a prison, which comes to the attention of an insane man calling himself the Governor. The Governor runs his local city, Woodbury, Georgia, like a dictator and tortures Rick and other members of his group, culminating in an all-out assault on the prison. Several of the main characters die in the battle, including the Governor himself. After the prison is made unsecure by an attack, Rick and the surviving members, after leaving with others to Washington, D.C. for a chance to cure the infection, encounter cannibals and a township that is enclosed and safe, but holds a secret.

This is ,by the way, a good transition to "The Social Network". The movie that I watched yesterday.

The Social Network is about a Webpage that probably everyone of us already heard about. Facebook. Got a billion hits each minute. Wonder how big the servers must be. Hm.
Anyways, I ate probably a ton of popcorn, laughed and had a good time. And I bet 98% of the people sitting in the cinema had there own facebook-account.

Hurray for the new internet life, blogs are nice too! Haha.

Holga. D

If there is any other camera to recommend besides my Canon AT-1 then it's the "Holga"!
The "Holga" was invented by some Chinese people in 1982 in Hongkong. It's creating a farious set of colors/shapes/leaks/vignettes and every other thing that you can imagine and love if you want to take something else then just a "perfect picture". It's made for art. It's difficult to use in the beginning but you're getting used to it quite fast! So, if you have a friend with a Holga then just have a look on it and try to take some really special and personal pictures just for a special moment of your life.

The main thing why I am writing this is a really interesting article about the idea of a Holga.D by Saikat Biswas.
The interesting part of the design is that, even though it's a digital camera, there is no screen where you could have a look at your pictures. There is this special feeling about every single picture that you took. It brings that old-school-analog prosess to a digital camera which got all the well known Holga futures. Besides that the design by Saikat Biswas is somehow a really good point to think about a digital version of the Holga camera.

ITALO DISCO IS THE F.

I thought about posting this Italo-Disco stuff since I met this really interesting person last night in Stockholm and spending hours and hours and hours with listening to Birchess.
She told me about two girls from Tallinn who are making humus and making a remix out if it with that awesome Italo-Disco style from the 80's.

I tell you: ITALO DISCO IS THE F.
It is actually nothing else then really nice and danceable late 70's early 80's electronic music coming from europe and mostly from Italy. Italo disco mostly made out of synths, drum machines, sampler, keyboards, sequencers and vocals.
So this is a mix of Birchess' favourite tracks. I really hope you people will enjoy it as much as i do!

I cought that holy drumstick!

I really do miss the Chinese underground rock scene. It's not just a normal feeling of going to a concert, no it is.. like a cure. I would bet that it's a good one too, ohyes! It isn't well known in Europe for some reason, but China got a HUGE rock scene around Bejing, Shanghai and Hong Kong as well I think . I lived there (in Shanghai) for two years, doing a graduation in one of these really expensive foreign schools, discovering all that rock meanwhile. Been to awesome concerts by Queen Sea Big Shark (I still got the holy drumstick from the concert), The Rogue Transmission (handed out flyers for them), Boys Climbing Ropes (我爱小朋克!) , Banana Monkey, P.K. 14, The Youth and the Destroyer, AV Okubo and a few others that I even can't remember but believe me, I've seen a lot. And everyone was F****** wicked.

So, the main thing why I am writing all that stuff is: I read a really interesting article on "Wired" about the Chinese rock scene just a few month ago. And now I want to share it with you people out there!
It's rather about the underground rock scene of Bejing but it is still really intersting to read.
And HEY, of course you have to listen to the music!
